Services

Camelot opened Staten Island’s first drug-free residential facility for young male adults in 1992.  At Camelot, we house up to 35 young adults ages 13 to 21, who will undergo rehabilitation, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

At Camelot’s facility, located at 273 Heberton Avenue these young men receive individual and group therapy, multi-family group, vocational services, on site educational services, and participate in recreational activities.

Many young people need a total change of environment to affect fundamental change in their lives.  They and their families need the time, space and undivided attention that only a residential stay can offer.  Taking a person out of conflict-torn home and exposing him or her to an intensive, short-term, highly structured, drug free experience dramatically increases his or her chances of recovery.

At Camelot’s residence the average client’s length of stay is approximately 6 to 9 months.  This is followed by an aftercare program that meets once a week, with family counseling, for a period of 6 months.

Camelot’s goal is to reunite the family after each member has had the opportunity to work through problems both separately and together.

ADOLESCENT OUTPATIENT

As with any group, there is a need for guidelines and regulations to avoid confusion and insure stability.  We have attempted to comprise a thorough set of rules which will be respected by all to insure an atmosphere of cooperation and harmony.

Camelot’s adolescent day service program, ages 13 to 17, is a viable alternative.  Using a carefully chosen combination of educational instruction, vocational training, and counseling, it helps get troubled teens back on track.

Therapy – In individual and group therapy, youngsters are encouraged to explore and express feeling they may be suppressing.

Education – Using a more intimate, small class approach – allowing individual attention and self-placed learning – students are taught by NYC Board of Education licensed teachers.  Here, students can choose either a regular academic program or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preparation.

Camelot’s part 822 day program allows young people the chance to redirect their lives.  It’s our goal to help all our young participants return to the mainstream high school, get their GED, or find employment.

ADULT OUTPATIENT

Family responsibilities, work pressures, and money worries can occasionally shake event the steadiest of people.  Some adults have had the added misfortune of growing up in a dysfunctional family – where hot tempers and cold feelings were often mixed with alcohol and drug abuse.  To merely survive, many shut down their feelings and rely on drugs and alcohol for relief.

Learning to open up, to let go of a lifetime of accumulated pain, and face reality without chemical dependency are the goals of our Adult Outpatient Program.

Clients participate in individual and group counseling.  As is all Camelot components, family involvement is encouraged through all stages of treatment.  Part of the treatment plan for an adult will also include some form of education, vocational training and/or job readiness.

INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT ADULT PROGRAM

The overall goal of the program is to move people from a state of dependency on drugs and government to independency and productive citizenry.

Camelot offers a more personal understanding experience because it is a therapeutic center as well as an alternative learning center.  The structure of the program allows people to grow and move in a mature and positive direction.

Services are provided five days a week, available Monday through Saturday at least four hours per day for the Adult Intensive Outpatient Program.

Minimum mandatory requirement is 15 hours per week, services available 20 hours per week.

FAMILY ASSOCIATION

Surprisingly, many of those suffering from substance abuse never touched a drug in their lives.  Children, spouses, parents - the entire family often find themselves “under the influence”.  The loved ones of substance abuser’s lifestyle pull everyone down around them.

The Camelot Family Association helps these substance abused families get the support, guidance, and direction they need.  Once each week, trained counselors work with family groups to teach themselves and their loved ones to cope with the turmoil caused by substance abuse.

The Family Association is more than just a shoulder to cry on.  It requires members to open up to examining the contents of their own lives.  This often means looking at deeply ingrained, generally lifelong habits that may have “enabled” their loved ones to follow a self-destructive path. The result:  many come to see their family relationships – indeed themselves – in an entirely new light.

This commitment to openness and personal growth is what distinguishes the Camelot Family Association and makes it an integral part of our total approach to substance abuse treatment.

SHELTER PROGRAMS

Camelot provides chemical dependency counseling to clients who reside in homeless residences.  These programs consist of individual and group counseling and family therapy.  Clients receive treatment until permanent housing is established.  Once housed, they are referred to appropriate treatment centers to continue progress.

HIGH SCHOOL VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAMS
